Quantitative Determination of Dihydrostreptomycin by Periodate Oxidation.
Dihydrostreptomycin is produced commercially by the catalytic hydrogenation of streptomycin. The reaction involves the reduction of the aldehyde group in the streptose moiety of the streptomycin molecule to the corresponding primary carbinol group as evidenced by the failure of dihydrostreptomycin to react with carbonyl reagents or with alkali to produce maltol. As there are no chemical methods...
متن کاملPeriodate oxidation and macromolecular compaction of hyaluronan*
Partial periodate oxidation of hyaluronan (HA) leads to ring opening of the 4-linked D-glucuronate (GlcA) residues, providing a particularly flexible element within otherwise semi-flexible chains. This leads to compaction of the chains as demonstrated by a pronounced decrease in the intrinsic persistence length, which was determined on the basis of the molecular weight dependence of radius of g...
متن کاملOxidation of hydroxy-L-proline by periodate.
Some time ago Carter and Neville reported (1) that hydroxy-n-proline yields formaldehyde on oxidation with periodate. In another laboratory, this oxidation was found to produce a considerably lower yield of formaldehyde than we had obtained.’ A further study of this reaction was accordingly undertaken. Oxidation of several new samples of hydroxy-L-proline gave lower yields of formaldehyde than ...
متن کاملElectrochemical Oxidation of Chlorinated Phenols
Electrochemical oxidation has been proposed as a remediation method for chlorinated phenols but is hampered by anode fouling. In this work we explore the mechanism of anode fouling by chlorinated phenols, compare structure vs reactivity for phenols differing in the extent of chlorination, and relate the efficiency of oxidation to the mechanism of oxidation at different electrode types. Linear s...
متن کاملPartial oxidation of light alkanes by periodate and chloride salts.
The efficient and selective partial oxidation of light alkanes using potassium periodate and potassium chloride is reported. Yields of methane functionalization in trifluoroacetic acid reach >40% with high selectivity for methyl trifluoroacetate. Periodate and chloride also functionalize ethane and propane in good yields (>20%).
